Staff at Design2e have been reflecting on activity and achievements from the last 12 months. We think we’ve had a pretty good year and our highlights include…….

January

We attended the ‘topping out’ ceremony of Left Bank hosted by Wates where spectacular views could be seen from the city’s newest sky scraper.

February

We were once again awarded a position in the NCE100 and shortlisted for the Skills Leader category as one of eight Civil and Structural Engineering consultancies.

March

Work commenced on the Stockport Interchange Development.

April

Dave Tyson, Managing Director shared his wisdom at the Tall Buildings Conference in London during which he talked about the future of tall buildings in Birmingham, highlighting Left Bank as an example of an impressive high-quality structure currently in its construction phase.

July/August

The prestigious Hungate Block F development reached completion creating a range of stylish, high spec 2 and 3 bedroom apartments with balconies/terraces, situated just 2 minutes’ walk from York’s historic City Centre.

September

We completed another year refurbishing the RDF areas for Elementis Chromium.

October

Toy Box – a 69 week, 14 storey student accommodation project reached completion. Our innovative designs enabled the contractor – Torsion Group to successfully complete the job on time and within budget.

BIM – We were delighted to be presented with our BIM certificate after satisfying key requirements and meeting the specified standards required of PAS 1192-2:2013. November

Thanks to work done and evidence submitted by Wayne Holt, Executive Director we were awarded with our ISO14001:2015 and CHAS (Designer and Premium Plus) certificates of accreditation.
ISO14001:2015 demonstrates that our environmental performance is important to us through our efficient use of resources and reduction of waste; and our CHAS confirms that our Health and Safety processes for the construction industry are of an excellent standard.

Silia Arnaki and Dharam Bola, Design Engineers attended the STEM Careers Fair at the University of Bath to promote our 2020 graduate and year-long placement campaign to students there.

December

After 3 years of construction, Left Bank reached completion, changing the skyline in Birmingham with the tallest residential building 2019.

Two members of the team attended their University graduation ceremonies. Shweta Munbodh graduated from the University of Leeds with an MSc in Environmental Engineering and Project Management and Hannah Li graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MSc in Civil Engineering and Management. Congratulations to both of them!

Our Office Christmas party took place and we raised money for a local homeless charity by wearing our festive jumpers.

In 2019 we also welcomed several new staff to the company…….

Shaun Greatrix left us to work for a company closer to home and Ikechukwu Umeokoli returned to University after completing his summer placement with us. We wish them both the very best for the future in their chosen careers.
